Does the desktop app send my data anywhere?

Flookup does not receive the files you open or their contents. Licence activation sends your licence ID and purchase email, along with a one-way device fingerprint and app version. The app also checks licence status and requests a signed update manifest. If you connect Google Sheets, Salesforce or Airtable, it exchanges the records you select directly with that provider; write-back requires a preview and your confirmation.

Can you see the data I clean?

Flookup does not receive the files you process. Files opened from your computer are read and saved locally. When you choose a connected source, the app communicates directly with that provider for the records you select; any write-back is previewed and must be confirmed.

What makes the installer trustworthy?

The installer carries an Authenticode signature. A signature is arithmetic rather than a promise: if any byte of the file has changed since it was signed, the signature stops verifying. The certificate it is signed with, including the subject, thumbprint and validity dates, is published on the desktop page so you can check it yourself before installing.

How many computers can one licence cover?

One licence covers one seat on one computer, and the licence is bound to that machine rather than to your account. To move it, use Release device in My Account on the machine you no longer use, then enter the licence id on the new one. Releasing a device never touches the licence itself.

What the Flookup Desktop App Does

Flookup Data Wrangler brings seven data tools into one Windows app. Work with local files or connect to an online source when you choose:

Profile and Insights. Review column profiles, distributions, missing values and duplicate clusters before changing data.
Clean and Transform. Standardise names, addresses, dates and text with pattern-based tools instead of hand-written formulas.
Match and Dedupe. Find similar records using exact, normalised, phonetic or fuzzy matching, then review and merge golden records.
Data Verification. Check email addresses, countries, postcodes and other fields against built-in reference tables.
Automation. Schedule recurring cleaning jobs to run automatically.
Import from a Source. Connect to Google Sheets, Salesforce or Airtable and import selected records. Preview changes before writing values back to existing records; the last write-back can be undone.
My Account. Check licence status, manage your device and see how long offline access remains available.

Your Files Stay on Your Computer

Files you open from your computer are read, processed and saved there. Flookup does not receive a copy of those files or their contents. When you choose a Google Sheets, Salesforce or Airtable connection, the app communicates directly with that provider for the records you select. Changes are shown in a preview before you confirm a write-back.

The app has no sign-in account, analytics, telemetry or crash reporting. My Account is the local licence panel; it does not store your workbook or send it to Flookup. Your work is saved in a workbook in your Windows user profile.

Flookup receives licence requests and update checks, not your workbook. Activation sends your licence ID and purchase email, together with a one-way device fingerprint and app version. Routine licence checks use the licence ID, fingerprint and version. The fingerprint is derived from device and account details; those raw values are not sent.

Update checks request a signed release manifest from www.getflookup.com and do not include your licence ID, device fingerprint or file contents. Optional source connections go directly to the provider you selected, not through a Flookup data-processing service.

This website uses Google Analytics under the privacy policy linked in the footer. That is separate from the desktop app, which does not include analytics or crash reporting.

Network Requests

The app makes background requests for licence status and update information. When you use a connected source, it also contacts that provider to carry out the import or confirmed write-back you requested.

Licence service. Activation sends your licence ID and purchase email, plus a one-way device fingerprint and app version. Routine checks send the licence ID, fingerprint and version. The app checks periodically, and My Account shows when the last check succeeded.
Update service. The app requests a signed release manifest from www.getflookup.com. The request does not include your licence ID, device fingerprint or file contents.
Connected sources. If you choose Google Sheets, Salesforce or Airtable, the app sends the authentication and record requests needed for the selected operation directly to that provider. Write-back is previewed and requires your confirmation.

What Stays on Your Machine

Your workbook, saved in your Windows user profile and available for you to read or delete.
Your signed licence, verified on your computer.
A troubleshooting log capped at 1 MB. It records app activity, not workbook contents.

A valid licence continues to work offline for up to seven days after its last successful check-in. The app tries again about once a day. If it cannot reach the licence service before that period ends, paid features pause until the next successful check; your workbook remains on your computer. My Account shows the remaining offline time.

The App Never Opens a Web Page Itself

Every other address in the app, including the buttons that open the pricing page and the licence page, is handed to your browser and does nothing itself. The app will not open a link to any host other than www.getflookup.com and www.paypal.com, and it does not use wildcards, so a subdomain we have not audited cannot open silently.

The desktop app comes in three lifetime tiers, and every tier is a one-time payment with nothing renewing. Standard cleans local files on one computer. Pro adds the Google Sheets, Salesforce and Airtable connectors with automation and priority support on one computer. Team covers five Pro seats with centralised seat management. Payment is handled by PayPal, which is the merchant of record, so VAT and sales tax are calculated at checkout and remitted on your behalf and your card details never reach Flookup. The licence reaches you by email within a minute. The lifetime licence for the Google Sheets add-on cannot be bought here and is listed on the add-on pricing page.

A receipt and an invoice are sent for every payment, and the licence itself is a signed file on your machine, so there is no portal to visit and no payment method to keep current.

How to Activate Your Desktop Licence

Your licence ID arrives by email. In the app, enter it with the email address used for purchase to activate the licence on that computer.

My Account shows the licence status and available seats, and lets you release a computer when you need to move the licence. Release the old device before replacing it where possible; a significant Windows, hardware or account change can affect the device binding.

My Account does not take payments. The desktop licence is a one-time purchase and does not renew, so there is no subscription to cancel. If anything looks wrong, contact us and we will put it right.

A Digitally Signed Installer You Can Verify

The installer has an Authenticode signature. Windows can use it to check the publisher and detect changes made after signing. You can inspect the certificate details below before installing.

Download the public certificate and inspect it in Windows Certificate Manager. Download the signing certificate.

The Windows Publisher Warning on First Run, Explained

Because this certificate is self-signed rather than issued by a commercial certificate authority, Windows may show a publisher warning the first time. The warning does not by itself mean the installer is damaged; check the signer and thumbprint before continuing.

To clear the warning on your own machine, trust the certificate once:

Open the certificate file you downloaded above.
Choose Install Certificate, then choose Current User as the location.
Run the installer. The publisher now reads APELL Create rather than Unknown publisher.

Trusting the certificate changes a setting on your computer, not the certificate itself. It affects only that Windows user and can be reversed by removing it from Trusted Root Certification Authorities.

How to Verify the Installer Signature Yourself

Use Windows to check the downloaded installer:

Right click the downloaded file and choose Properties, then the Digital Signatures tab.
Select the signature and choose Details. Confirm the signer subject is CN=Flookup Data Wrangler, O=APELL Create, C=GB and that the thumbprint matches the one above.
Windows will also state that the certificate is not from a trusted source. That is expected for a certificate issued by the software author rather than by a commercial authority.

You can also compare the file hash with the SHA-256 value in the release manifest.

How Device-Bound Desktop Licensing Works

A desktop licence is bound to a device fingerprint derived from machine identifiers and the Windows account. A copied licence file alone is not enough to activate it on another computer.

Reinstalling Windows or changing hardware or account details can affect the fingerprint. Release the old device in My Account before a planned replacement where possible; if you are locked out, contact us for help.

How Desktop App Updates Work

The app checks for a new release about once a day and shows an update notice in the top bar. It does not download or install updates without your action. When you choose to update, the app verifies the release manifest and installer hash before starting the installer.

How to Report a Problem with the Desktop App

If a signature check fails, a hash does not match or the app behaves unexpectedly, contact us. Include the version shown in My Account and, if possible, the integrity-check output from that panel. Contact us.
